Size of government measures taxation, government spending, and government investment and control of enterprises. An increase in those indicators reduces economic freedom as it crowds out individual choice. As spending and taxation by government, and the size of government-controlled enterprises increase, government decision-making is substituted for individual choice and economic freedom is reduced.
