The burden attributable to a residual cause of “other drug use disorders.†This is made up of an aggregate group of other forms of drug dependence. Included in the GBD disease modelling were cases meeting the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV-TR)1 or the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10)2 diagnostic criteria for: 1. Hallucinogen dependence 2. Inhalant or solvent dependence 3. Sedative dependence 4. Tranquilizer dependence 5. Other medicines, drugs, substance dependence. According to DSM-IV TR criteria, dependence involves a maladaptive pattern of substance use leading to clinically significant impairment or distress. At least three of the following symptoms must be experienced within the same 12-month period: 1. Tolerance, characterized by either a. a need for increased amounts of the substance to achieve intoxication; or b. markedly diminished effect with continued use of the same amount of the substance; 2. Withdrawal.
