    Prevalence is defined as the number of cases of a given disease in a specified population at a designated time per 100,000 people. Diabetes mellitus (DM) is defined as fasting plasma glucose (FPG) > 126 mg/dL (7 mmol/L) or being on treatment for diabetes.
